Presented at the Illinois Valley Oldsmobile Club's annual show for orphan makes, held at the Croatian Cultural Club, Joliet, Illinois. The Croatian Cultural Club, as the venue, picked one car from the field.
The car
Built on 23 October 1987 at AMC's plant in Brampton, Ontario, less than two months before the last Eagle came off the line. It is #1,759 of the 2,306 built for 1988, AMC’s final Eagle, when the Eagle was sold only as a wagon and Chrysler already owned the company.
Eagle fans often call these cars “rare birds,” since so few were built and fewer still survive. For 1988 the Limited name was gone, but every Eagle got the Limited interior with no badges, and features that used to cost extra, like the automatic and air conditioning, came standard.
It came to me in October 2025 with the previous owner's typed maintenance log, every entry since November 1993. Since then it has had a carburetor rebuild, a transmission leak fixed, new speakers, fresh vacuum lines and, so far, two oil changes.
